Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has called for a snap election which will be held on Sunday, a little more than a year before his term was to expire.  With less than two weeks to campaign, critics accused Abe of using the election to avoid recent corruption scandals and to take advantage of the fears of regional instability produced by North Korea.

With an expected low turnout and little competition in the polls, his strategy seems to be working. The expected   outcome is a third consecutive win for the prime minister.

For details on the election, The Takeaway turns to Tobias Harris, an analyst at political risk advisory firm Teneo Intelligence and an economy, trade, and business fellow at Sasakawa USA.
